About Us
Samsun University Center of Thought and Art Research (DÜSAM), which was established to connect different intellectual interests at Samsun University with both the local authentic language of the city and the universal language of science. It is a center that aims to draw attention to the inseparable relationship of thought with art and art with thought.
The center carries out its activities in the historical building next to the City Museum in the city center, in its office on the Canik Campus, and on online platforms (Zoom, YouTube). The importance given to information lies behind the effort to make it possible to share Turkey’s and the world’s multidimensional intellectual and intellectual heritage by crossing spatial boundaries, especially considering the pandemic process we experienced heavily in 2020. With this meticulous effort, it is aimed to embrace and discuss thought and art together, and to lead to new intellectual and artistic works.
Focusing on bringing together academic production with different horizons by providing vitality in culture of city, DÜSAM prioritized seminars in this field. Center of Thought and Art Research is taking steps towards creating an interdisciplinary cultural pool while operating in the city; believes that this effort to create an intellectual tradition will be rewarded in the city and meet an important need. Seminars titled The Problem of Historicity from an Interdisciplinary Perspective, Being a Reader in Front of the Text, Sociology of the Body, Basic Concepts in Political Science, Religion and Politics in Turkey, Aesthetics of Islamic Arts, Poetry and Poetics as the Fusion of Horizons, Classical Social Theory are the main seminar series held within DÜSAM.
Also, we bring together distinguished participants from Turkey and the world with the series of talks and conferences held under the name of Other Meetings. In particular, the symposium we organized under the title of “From Usul to Method: The Literature Historiography of M. Fuad Köprülü” not only brought together academics from Turkey and the world’s prestigious universities but also brought together a highly qualified audience on the online platform. Our conversation series titled Fragmentary Film Readings drew attention to what kind of meaning the visual language of cinema has beyond writing and words, while Speeches on Politics prioritized the analysis of current political events taking place in our country and the world. The series called 12 Punto Thesis Defenses within DÜSAM is important in terms of holding seminar activities at the graduate level, creating a cultural environment in which different academic interests are concentrated, and is valuable in terms of responding to the search for a place where undergraduate and graduate students can share their thoughts and open them for discussion. Creating an open space for anyone who has a say in this sense, DÜSAM will create an intellectual discussion area for graduate studies and will provide intellectual production that will keep minds alive.
In this context, DÜSAM aims to provide a basis for open-ended and listening dialogue between thought and art, social sciences and natural sciences, culture of city and academic culture, undergraduate and graduate students, academics from Turkey and abroad. It is a dynamic center that has been working on many different projects for years.
